Onion and Tomato Salad Ingredients
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
- Tomatoes: Fresh, ripe tomatoes form the base of the salad.
- Red onion: Adds a vibrant burst of color and a mild, slightly sweet flavor.
- Herbs and spices: Fresh Italian parsley, salt, pepper, and dried oregano create a bright, savory taste.
- Extra virgin olive oil: This forms the base of the dressing, creating a smooth consistency and a rich flavor.
- Red wine vinegar: For the most authentic taste, stick to red wine vinegar.
- Sugar: Use granulated or cane sugar to add a subtle hint of sweetness.
What Type of Tomatoes to Use
The riper your tomatoes, the better your salad will taste! Make sure they’re fresh and served at room temperature for the best taste. Pretty much any type of tomato you have on hand and like best will work well. However, for the best results, use fresh, in-season varieties.
Some of my favorite options include:
- Grape Tomatoes
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Heirloom Tomatoes
- Roma Tomatoes
