Hi! I’m Katya and welcome to Little Broken.
Little Broken is all about fresh ingredients and easy to follow recipes. Here, you’ll find recipes for everyday cook that focus on seasonal produce, chicken, fish, hearty breakfast, scrumptious appetizers, and little bit of sweets in between. Most of the recipes are healthy, simple, and 100% delicious.
I am a self taught cook who always had a passion for cooking and making new things to eat, which I owe to my mom. She taught me the basics and inspired me to cook from early age on.
All of the recipes are developed by me, unless otherwise noted.
I was born in Russia and moved to America at age of 8. I hold a degree in Criminal Justice and for as long as I could remember, I have wanted to be a paralegal, work in a sky rise building, and wear pretty heels to work. I was blessed enough to do just that for 10 years of my life, while working for a corporate defense firm.
In 2015, I traded my corporate life for mommy hood. I have a slight obsession with anything and everything to do with salads, cucumbers, avocado, and shoes! I can speak, read, and write Russian.
I currently reside in Maryland with my husband and three kids.
If you have any questions, comments, recipe requests, or are interested in working with me, you can use the contact form or email me directly at: katya(at)littlebroken(dot)com.

Stumbled upon from the net while preparing for a salad. Wanted it to ‘ve appetizing looks and scrumptious taste. Visited many recipe sites, none was so lucid as yours. Great pictures, specially the ingredients pic is very helpful. You captured the essence of good food, belle. Go on, create more. India’s young are just beginning to fall in love with salads.
BTW, my corn salad with feta turned out quite well. Thanks for the detailing.

You’re the first blog I’ve ever subscribed to. I sense a kindred spirit… from your recipes to our common nationality. I am first generation Russian and both my parents (now in their 90’s) are living survivors of WWII era Russia. I am the fifth child in our family, so by the time I came along, Russian cuisine was replaced by the more popular tacos, burritos, and pizza that my brothers craved. I can understand Russian, but speaking it fluently is a challenge. I digress, though. I am making your Lentil Chili and am looking forward to a house full of delicious aromas. I look forward to wandering through your site. Beautiful!
Katya says
Thank you so much Jeanne for subscribing and following along. That’s pretty cool that we have some things in common 🙂 Lentil Chili is a great choice and I hope you enjoy it.
Donna Gill says

Hi! I found you on pinterest and was really surprised to like all your recipes, but now it makes sense because you are also Russian 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration!
Katya says
So glad you did, Kristina! Welcome to my blog. I hope you come visit again 🙂
sally says
Hi Katya,
Your blog is wonderful!!! if only one could eat like that in local restaurants!!
Why is that the recipes are so good is because you are Russian? Are the russions great cooks with lots of very good recipes and pictures and understanding how to cook healthy?
I do like Russian Food and food styles from many places!
All the best to you!
Sally
Katya says
Aww..thanks so much Sally! I’m not sure if it’s a Russian thing. LOL. My mama was a good cook…so she inspired me a lot. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

I have your Simple Apple Tart in the oven right now and it smells amazing!! (I do have to say that your apple arrangement looks much, much fancier than mine. I think my apples were too small. But I’m still super excited to eat it!!)
Soli Deo Gloria,
Robin

That’s so great! I hope you enjoyed the tart and I’m sure it turned out just well 🙂 Thanks for your feedback!

I don’t have any experience with photography either. Also learning as I go. I find it more fun that way 🙂
Dina says
Katya, I love your about page! You have such a positive spirit towards everything. I too try to stay away from processed food, but man I just can’t say no to potato chips! Your photography is outstanding! Did you take any courses on photography or are you just a natural? 😉
Katya says
Hi Dina! I’m glad I’m not the only one with potato chip weakness 🙂 You’re so sweet and thank you for such a big compliment! I have no photography background just always had passion for it. It’s definitely a learning process and I’m still learning as it’s never “perfect” ha ha.

Katya, I stumbled on your blog today and I am so glad I did! We have a lot in common: I also love clean eating, cooking from scratch, Julia Roberts (have you seen August: Osage County?-she is absolutely incredible!). И я тоже из России! Не смогла удержаться, чтобы не написать вам по-русски. Это такая редкость встретить русскоговорящего food blogger! Love your recipes and your photography is stunning! I’ll be coming back!
Katya says
Hi Anna! Welcome and so glad you found my blog! Isn’t it awesome how internet connects us all ? That’s one of my favorite parts about blogging is connecting/meeting new people! Are you currently in US? Sounds like we do have some similarities and yes I’m a HUGE Julia Roberts fan. All of her movies are so awesome, including Osage County! Thank you for your Russian comment and sweet words. It takes me a bit longer to type out in Russian so I hope you don’t mind me replying in English 🙂 I do hope you come back again. Have a great day!
Anna says
Don’t mind English at all. I agree, connecting/meeting new people is that little magic blogging can provide. Yes, I am in the US, in sunny Los Angeles. If you happen to be in the area, let me know. I’d be happy to treat you to lunch. Blessings!

Hi Katya,
i have just discovered this site, and have been enjoying looking through your recipes, I live in Sydney with the colder months (which i hate)
approaching, i will make some of your chilli dishes & soup,
would love your chicken soup if poss? or is it here somewhere,
Warm Regards,
Kirsten 🙂
Katya says
Hi Kirsten! Welcome all the way from Sydney! That’s so cool 🙂 Soup and chili is definitely a way to go in colder months, even though I bet your cold doesn’t compare to our cold 🙂 What chicken soup are you exactly referring to?
Kirsten says
Hahaha Yes im sure our cold is just a little cool for you. I live on the beaches, & we all LOVE summer here.
Just hearty chicken soup recipes,, didnt you say you have a good chicken noodle one? 🙂
Katya says
Hey Kirsten, you can find all the soups under the Recipe Index, including chilies. I have a chicken noodle soup with an asian twist on there as well. Hope you find something good to cook up. And stay warm 🙂
Chelsey Nichol says
I found you though Pinterest…and wanted to let you know that I also have an anchor as part of my logo 🙂 and also love potato chips (they are the food that I would be left with if stranded on a desert island and could only eat one food ever again) and Julia Roberts in Nottinghill. I think its really her hair in that movie that gets me, love it.
Katya says
Hi Chelsey! Welcome to my blog! Glad you stumbled through Pinterest. Sounds like you have an awesome taste. I like you already 🙂 Hope you come back. Thanks for dropping me a note!!! Have a great night.
