Wedge salad with avocado, prosciutto crumbles, and homemade ranch dressing. It’s so satisfying and delicious!

Not Your Classic Wedge Salad

A wedge salad is one of the simplest salads out there with minimal ingredients but an incredibly bold taste. You only need 5 ingredients, plus Buttermilk Ranch Dressing.

Our recipe for a wedge salad is different, unique, and absolutely mouthwatering good! It combines crunchy lettuce with creamy ranch dressing, crispy bits of prosciutto, avocado, and tomatoes.

Wedge Salad Ingredients

  • Iceberg lettuce: Wedge salad would not be without iceberg lettuce. It’s crisp, refreshing, and light. I do not recommend substituting with another lettuce.
  • Prosciutto: I love using prosciutto in this salad instead of bacon as it’s much more delicate. It adds just the perfect crunch and texture. You can find prosciutto in the deli section of most grocery stores. Usually sold pre-packaged.
  • Grape tomatoes: You can also use cherry tomatoes or Campari tomatoes. Both are readily and delicious year-round. Just make sure to chop the tomatoes into small bits and pieces.
  • Avocado: For best taste, use ripe avocado and chop it into small chunks.
  • Buttermilk Ranch Dressing: Homemade dressing is the way to go! It tastes so much better and the consistency is just right. Feel free to thin out the dressing even further for this recipe.

How to Make Wedge Salad with Ranch

Prepare the ranch dressing in advance and keep stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or until ready to serve.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange prosciutto slices in a single layer. Bake until wrinkled and slightly shrunken, about 11-13 minutes. Set aside to cool completely. It will crisp up as it cools.

While the prosciutto cools, prepare the lettuce. Discard the outer leaves of the lettuce and cut the iceberg in half right through the middle, then cut the halves into four wedges.

Arrange the wedges on a platter or individual plates, spoon a generous amount of ranch dressing over each wedge so that it drips down the sides, then top with chopped tomatoes and avocado.

Crumble the cooled prosciutto and sprinkle over each wedge. Season with salt and pepper.
